Marion Says It's Time To Move On

Forget "The Matrix", after seeing the picture on the left I officially dub Shawn Marion "The Scarecrow".

Here's a quick early morning update on the whole Marion trade situation: It's official, Shawn Marion wants out of Phoenix. OK, so maybe that's not news, since everyone pretty much knew that anyway. But now The Scarecrow has officially come out and said that it is time to go.

The rumored deal has him going to the Lakers in exchange for Lamar Odom and a contract, likely Brian Cook. We know the Suns would likely take the deal, since it's great value for a disgruntled star, but would the Lakers? Hoopsworld's Eric Pincus makes some great points about why the Lakers would benefit from trading Odom for Marion as well. The bottom line is that Marion doesn't have the injury issues that have plagued the Lamar Odom for the past few seasons and have played a large part in LA derailing in the playoffs. In addition, Marion will likely opt out of his contract, giving LA cap relief a year earlier, which would be useful should they try to trade Kobe.

Yesterday I talked about the fantasy impact on Marion and Odom themselves, but a few other guys stand to benefit or be hurt by the trade. Here's a quick list (I will break them down individually and in depth should this deal actually go down):

Increase in value: Luke Walton, Ronny Turiaf, Raja Bell
Decrease: Vlad Radmonovic, Steve Nash, Boris Diaw, Leandro Barbosa

If this deal is going to go down it's got to happen this week (before training camp starts on Monday). I will be right here giving you all the latest.

UPDATE: Marion stated that Kobe wants to get the deal done. That alone gives the Lakers reason to make the deal...all we can do now is wait.

Oh, and for those wondering my first draft of the year was completed last night. I will be writing up a round by round analysis that should be up sometime later today, so be sure to subscribe to the Unpossiblog so you don't miss it!
